fifty objects (2007)

Occasionally I like to write pieces that do what it says on the tin. I have written several objects pieces, usually for birthdays or other anniversaries. The works all differ in their treatment of objects – so for instance forty objects, is for 40 electric guitars and each part is unique; seventy objects (2004) for solo piano features a number of unique objects. In fifty objects, I created well over 50 unique objects: combinations of instruments; chords; methods of attack, etc.. fifty objects is dedicated to Simon Holt with much affection as an early birthday gift. It could just have easily been called the other side of that particular sunlit coin.

The first performance was given by Radius at the Wigmore Hall, London, 8 January 2008.
